What: A vending machine which connects to the internet and is controllable by an app.
Why: The startup Sample Labs used this to distribute samples and collect data on the popularity of products.
How: Retrofitted an old vending machine to communicate with a Raspberry Pi and Arduino. I created a circuit to emulate the keypad and communicate with the vending machine, and wrote the Raspberry Pi Python code to interface with the app via a web socket.
When: Summer 2015
My role: I worked as an intern with the two founders of the company to do all mechanical and electrical aspects of this project, and helped interface it with the iPhone app.
